Perched on the canal bank opposite the National Indoor Arena, this is a gem of a Sea Life Centre spread over three floors of a striking modern building designed by Sir Norman Foster. Visitors climb gently past an array of amazing display tanks teeming with freshwater and marine creatures of all shapes and sizes…from sticklebacks to seahorses, starfish to giant sea turtles. New this year…4D ‘Sensoramic’ Cinema. Don’t just watch…be immersed; feel the sea breeze and the salt spray and even smell the kelp! The National SEA LIFE centre, located in the heart of Birmingham, invites you to take part in the ultimate quest to discover the sunken treasures of the legendary Lost City of Atlantis. A magical mirror maze winds its way around the lairs of some secretive and mysterious sea creatures. *4D Cinema – Planet Earth* Fasten your seat-belts for a truly amazing experience in the National SEA LIFE centre’s brand new 4D cinema. You will be plunged into the thick of the action as sea lions, dolphins and other sea creatures leap from the screen; as you feel the wind and salt spray on your face and even smell the seaweed. It’s a sensoramic sensation! An amazing 360° acrylic tunnel allows all round viewing of a fantastic collection of marine life including sharks, sea turtles and beautiful colourful tropical fish. Meet our cheeky Asian short-clawed otters and see the graceful movements of the rays. The SEA LIFE network’s flagship attraction has two new attractions in store. Amazon Attack will turn the spotlight on the more dangerous creatures of the Amazon river and surrounding rainforest, everything from piranhas and dart frogs to sabre toothed tetras and terrifying tarantulas. And this will soon be followed by a unique new refuge for endangered freshwater turtles, including a special turtle hatchery. Informative talks and feeding presentations can be seen throughout the day. The only inland SEA LIFE Centre, it boasts more than 55 displays of freshwater and marine life, plus the world’s first fully transparent tubular walkthrough tunnel…where you can walk suspended in mid-ocean surrounded by sharks, skate and other amazing creatures. These and countless other delights guarantee a memorable experience for every visitor. A wonderland for visitors of all ages…the Centre has just launched a brand new feature ‘AmaZonia’, housing piranhas, poison dart frogs and many more exotic creatures. All of this is in addition to the Centre’s dramatic centrepiece the tropical ocean tank, the stars of which are undoubtedly green sea turtles Gulliver and Molokai. Plus of course, dozens of other spectacular displays featuring octopus, crabs and lobsters, sharks, stingrays….and lots, lots more. A favourite feature with many visitors is the Centre’s Seahorse Breeding & Conservation Centre…home to a variety of these exotic and colourful creatures, from native spiny seahorses to Australian big-bellies. *Opening Times:* Open from 10:00 every day except Christmas Day.
